What a weekend of sport for the Club and all invlved directly or indirecty with GoTri.
National Long Course Swimming
UL Arena was the location for the National LC event this weekend and the Gala kicked off on Fiday evening with the 1500 which Edwin and Erin produced PBs. Saturday morning was a buzz with competitiors as the pool deck was full of different clubs having squatters rights along the walls of the pool. For a first competitor at a Gala this was our Olymics and the buzz about the place was really imspiring. The digital dashboard showing competitor names, timing boards, diving blocks etc meant it was a bit different from my last experience of a Gala back in 1987 at the Clare Community Games finals in Ennis. Shannon Masters crew were having great craic on the deck with great encouragement for all our athletes as they zoomed up and down. Mick Rooney did a great job of keeping us all calm and on time for our races. When the 200M came around I headed for the start quiet nervously but Aussies advice that the distance was what we did for the warmup on a regular swim morning eased the nerves a bit. Options were available to start in the Pool, on the deck or on the starting block .. I decided on the block as may as well go all in :-) Jaysus twas high up there. Ready .. Go and we are off ... Serious Belly flop done and I was off ... 4 Lengths later and I was done. Delighted to say I took part. Didnt hear the results of the Belly Flop competition but who ever has my medail Ill collect it during the week. Well done to all swimmers - its definetly something everyone should do and just like your first Bike race or 10K race thinking about it is worse than doing it.
Bike Race in Broadford
The best turnout ever for a race from crns in total 12 lined up for the start with mairead taking second place in the ladies race for her first ever road race that was some start well done mairead.
In the a4-m40 race we did the club very proud today dictating the race for most of it with constant attacks from clyde and other attacks from Jason,Richard, cathal,James and Alan kept the group on their toes with the finish on a very tight road made it difficult to position for the Sprint on a hard uphill finish which didn't stop Richard trying to fight for top honours but it wasn't to be but still finishing in the top 10 with Jason also in the top 10 just behind followed fiachra ,clyde,James then Alan on his wheel all in the top 20.
Everyone else finishing very close behind. A lot of other clubs paid compliments to us today also on the amount that turned out and the way we raced
